MYOB offers several point of sale (POS) packages for retail businesses. These integrate with a shop's accounting software and automatically post journals. This eliminates the need of double entering data and means business owners can readily see how their shop is performing.

MYOB RetailManager

MYOB’s RetailManager is PC based software and ideal when you don't want or have internet access in your shop. It's easy to use, and a great solution whether you have one or many shops. The program integrates seamlessly to MYOB AccountRight so that your Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports are kept up to date on a daily basis. It's ideal if you sell and manage inventory, require fast sales processing, need to manage customers on account and see exactly how the shop is performing. It's compatible with most POS hardware.

Pros

  • Tried and proven bullet proof software
  • Intuitive interface and easy to read screens makes for fast training
  • Compatible with most POS hardware – cash drawers, docket printer & bar code scanners
  • Seamless integration to AccountRight – GST, bank, inventory, debtors’ balances posted daily
  • Custom add-on reports available to purchase to supplement the 70 existing reports
  • Good audit trail and users cannot delete transactions once posted
  • Great export/import options so data can easily be transferred
  • One-time license fee so very cheap to own. Pay once and use forever

Cons

  • Desktop and/or server based (not available via a web browser)
  • Doesn’t connect to all types of EFTPOS machines – limited range available
  • MYOB are not investing in RetailManager developing, however the product is still well supported

Conclusion:

MYOB RetailManager is recommended for shops who want integration to MYOB AccountRight and those who want to run on their PC or server and not via a web browser. The software runs reliably for years and is cheap to maintain having no compulsory annual license fee. The software is well developed and supported by both MYOB and MYOB Certified Consultants.

MYOB Kounta

MYOB Kounta is perfect for any sized hospitality business such as bars, restaurants & cafes, plus service businesses and smaller retail shops who need stock control. It allows you to view real-time data of your sales, inventory and performance indicators on any mobile device.

Pros

  • Kounta has the ability to work both online and offline should the internet go down  
  • Can run it on any web browser so not limited to Windows (i.e. can run on an iPad, MacBook or other device with a browser)
  • Ability to bulk import stock from your existing POS system or from Excel
  • Can use product components to make a final product that is sold 
  • Print barcodes and labels with ease using the barcode and label printing add-on
  • Flexible payments including layby and account sales
  • Create and track multiple user accounts, each with a secure pin code
  • Tracks sales history per customer
  • Good reporting options
  • Connects to a large number of other on-line packages
  • Integrates to MYOB Essentials and AccountRight accounting software

Cons

  • MYOB doesn’t support this product directly but good third-party support & from Kounta themselves
